What is the Royal Pines planning scheme amendment?
The proposed planning scheme amendment aims to facilitate the future redevelopment of 9 holes of the Eastern Golf Course.
The proposal is still in the planning stage and could offer the potential for:
- New, well-located housing to help meet the region’s critical supply needs.
- Enhanced resort and lifestyle amenities, improving connectivity with surrounding urban areas.
- Green links and active transport corridors connecting Ross Street, Cabana Dog Park, and the Gold Coast Regional Botanic Gardens, further integrating the site into the community.
What engagement and approvals are occurring?
Collaboration with the Queensland Government and Gold Coast City Council is underway to progress planning for the Royal Pines proposal.
Consultation with stakeholders in the Royal Pines Bodies Corporate, including owners and occupiers of land within Royal Pines Resort, will occur to gather input before formally submitting the planning scheme amendment. This feedback will be carefully reviewed and considered prior to the formal submission.
To progress the proposed planning scheme amendment, approval is required from the Governor in Council following a recommendation from the Minister for Queensland Government’s Department of State Development, Infrastructure and Planning and Gold Coast City Council.
How will this proposal affect the Golf Course?
Should the proposal move forward, the remaining 18 hole Golf Course will be upgraded, combining the best elements of the existing western and eastern courses. The upgraded course will be designed to support everyday play and importantly, none of the holes proposed for removal are adjacent to existing homes.
Are there any impacts on Royal Pines residents?
Aside from minor, short-term disruptions during the golf course upgrade, future development will have minimal impact on existing homeowners due to the southern location of the new precinct.
Is the Gold Coast Athletes’ Village being considered?
The Gold Coast Athletes’ Village for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games is currently being worked through with State Government. Further detail will be provided when they become available.
When are works expected to start and finish?
If approved, initial works are anticipated to commence in Q4 FY27. A significant amount of design and planning will be required before any works may be progressed. The project website will be updated as timeframes for any future works are confirmed.
